Suggestions for Monk dealing with undead with limited purge capabilities
I'm 15th level (about to get 16), and I've never had a problem healing a party up til now, but in the swamps in Kryta where all the undead are (sorry, can't think of the area name), we keep dying because we have to walk though the swamp to get to the undead boss and of course, it's full of poison.
Obviously since I'm a monk, I have a great "normal" healing setup, but what would other monks suggest I carry for this mission? I have purge conditions, but it's a 30 second recharge and when there's 6 of us, well, one of us will survive at least. I have remove hex, but that doesn't work on poison, right? I don't have a purge signet or any other purge type things, so we keep getting killed. I do use Healing Breeze and Vigorous Spirit to continually heal the party, but the poison is just too much combined with fighting the undead. Suggestions? (besides the obvious-don't do the mission) Bragg |

Don't stand in the poison! It's not permanent by any means - it'll wear off if you get out of the water in a few seconds.
I've had a lot of Warriors in my groups that felt it was perfectly okay to stand in that nasty -4 poison and fight undead. Then they got mad 'cause the monk wasn't healing them. Whatsit... Mend Condition? There's one condition-removing spell that costs 5 and recharges in just a few seconds. Also see if you can convince any of the other xx/Mo to bring condition removal too. -sam Mend Ailment, too. Both spells cost 5 energy, cast in .75 second, and recharge in 2 seconds. But come to think of it, they aren't available until Henge of Denravi/Quarrel Falls. Hmmm. Practice luring. Get one member to just get poisoned and pull back onto dry land, and then just keep him Breezed. Also, don't feel you HAVE to bring Warriors! If you notice, the mobs never pay attention to who's attacking them mostly - they always go after the monk first anyway Here's a little mob AI tip that comes in handy: Mobs will almost always preferentially attack a party member who's carrying something. It doesn't matter what. I noticed this in Elona Reach last night: while carrying a Splinter Mine, everything always came at me first. I was standing closer than the monk who was carrying the Crystal, so they went for me first. Last edited by samarium; Jul 22, 2005 at 03:24 PM // 15:24.. |

Gates of Kryta? You can solo that mission if you're a smiting/healing monk.
There's a path of dry land in the swamp area that you can walk on that easily avoids the poison swamp water. Instead of rushing up the right side or going up the middle, try going left instead. Basically it takes you right along the path. No fuss, no muss (and no deaths). |

Purge Conditions is not very efficient - especially when people get poisoned over and over again, it is next to useless. Mend Ailment and Mend Condition are both 5 energy and both recharge pretty fast. Again, no use mending/purging unless they are already out of the poison, though!
Or just sit and spam Heal Party every few seconds until the battle is over. And before you go in, REMIND your teammates, "Hey, stay outta the poison, wouldja please? |

Forgot to mention that I was doing this with henchmen, so I can't tell them to stay out of poison, lol.

I don't think they ever require you to go through the poison, but with henchmen AI the way it is, they'll happily jaunt right into it as soon as you're aggroed.
But there is a path around the poison if you look for it. -sam |

Is that the mission where the white mantle stand up on the ridge above the swamp? If so you can get them to help you out by dragging the nasties into their range. Just make sure they don't get killed off in the initial rush.
